Nootropics: An Introduction

Nootropics: An IntroductionIf you’ve been even slightly following the trends of the supplement industry, you’ve had probably heard of the word Nootropic. If you haven’t heard of them yet, well that’s really a shame since nootropics are an amazing sort of supplement that can really better your life in its many different aspects – work, gym, and learning in general.

Nootropics, also known as smart drugs, or cognitive enhancers are supplements taken that improve cognitive function, as well as add health benefits to the brain. This obviously depends on the type of Nootropic taken, however it’s been known that these drugs have the added benefit of being completely non-toxic to your body or your brain.

Therefore, caffeine and adderall are not considered nootropics since caffeine offers no health benefits, and at the same time, adderall is in fact quite toxic, and can bring an onset of other side effects.

The first applied use of nootropics was as a study aid, to help students improve the efficiency of their studies by having increased focus and learning absorption. However, as time progressed, it was discovered that there were many other benefits to using nootropics that had nothing at all to do with studying. Nootropic users report greater ability in the gym, in their personal relationships, and even in the demanding workplace.

In fact, this boost of performance makes complete sense since there isn’t a thing that we do that does not involve the brain. In the gym, we need our brains to give us that one extra rep outside our comfort zone. In the workplace, we can benefit by having our brains give us extra focus to get the job done as efficiently as possible. There are so many applications in which Nootropics make the brain benefit us. If you’ve ever heard that the brain doesn’t always work at 100% capacity, this is as close as you’re going to get.

However, there are detractors of course, as with anything. A common expectation from Nootropics is that it will extremely enhance the brain, similar to that seen in the popular movie, Limitless. Nootropics don’t work as an instant fix, and actually, the effectiveness of nootropics gradually increase over time. Your brain is being cleansed and bettered over time. It isn’t going to be a quick fix, but the fix will last a long time.

It isn’t often when science gives us a tick mark on all categories, but this is one of them. It’s a pill that can gradually improve your cognitive functions, as well as positively affecting other parts of your life. Why wouldn’t you use one? You don’t have to if you don’t want to, but one thing you should take from this is that you shouldn’t just dismiss Nootropics as a drug that aids students. In fact, it’s the next big thing emerging from science, with discoveries being made every day. In fact, 2014 might just be “The Year of Nootropics.”
